Making Sense of Your Internal Laptop DVD Burner Options

DVD burners are must haves for most people, so there is no doubt that once something goes wrong with it you’re going to want to replace it. With so many different options in terms of manufacturers, models, features, sizes and prices, replacing your internal laptop DVD burner can be confusing to say the least.

Whether you know exactly what you are looking for or not, it’s always a good idea to compare different options once you know what you’re looking for, if you don’t already. Depending on the features you’re looking for and the money you want to spend on a new internal laptop DVD burner, there should be quite a few options to choose from.

What the Options Are

In order to choose the best internal DVD burner for you, you have to know what’s out there. Even the color of your new DVD burner is a choice that needs to be made, so there are plenty of options to look for. Black, silver and white are the main colors you’ll be able to choose from but specialty colors are made and can be found through places like Tigerdirect.

Dual burner systems are an option, and of course the burn speed is another thing to think about. However, the features beyond this don’t vary too much from one model to another, so keep this in mind when pricing internal laptop DVD burners.

Where to Find the Best Deals

When it comes to an internal laptop DVD burner, if you can find a refurbished product it’s the way to go. Most times a refurbished product will perform just as well if not better than new models, and can save a consumer a ton of money (sometimes up to 50%!).

Auction websites are also good ways to go about finding great deals but keep in mind that you don’t know the condition your product will be in once you receive it through the mail. After all, an auction website allows you to simply purchase items from other people (like at a swap meet) so many sellers don’t have the reputation a brick and mortar company strives to achieve.

Unless you need a new internal laptop DVD burner immediately, you can take a couple weeks to comparison shop your local electronics stores. Visit their websites and check out the Sunday paper for special deals and savings that are often shared with customers.

Looking For an Internal DVD Burner, or an External Option?

DVD burners are an important part of electronics for anyone who is into music, gaming, movies, or anything else that can be burned onto a DVD. In fact, DVDs have overcome CDs altogether, offering more burning space per disc compared to a rewritable CD. Anything can be burned onto a DVD player, so the bottom line is that they’re important to have.

Whether you own a desktop or a laptop, an internal DVD burner is probably already installed. However, things can go wrong and you might find yourself with an internal DVD burner that no longer works and is just taking up valuable space. If you find yourself in this position, there are a few options you have. First, you can simply replace the computer altogether. However unless this is something you’ve already planned on doing, it’s probably not the best option for you.

The other options available are external and internal DVD burners. There are pros and cons to each option, it all depends on which will work best for your situation. Space, budget, quality and ultimately what you need the DVD burner for are all things that should be taken into consideration when deciding whether an external or an internal DVD burner is the best choice for you.

External DVD Burners

This is your best bet if you have some extra space, you want to share the DVD burner with other computers and/or you want some extra features that wouldn’t fit in your internal slot (such as a dual burner). External burners aren’t usually too big, so a lot of extra space isn’t required, but you do have to be alright with an extra component to your computer, whether it’s a desktop or a laptop. Desktop computers typically work better with external DVD burners because they’re stationary compared to laptops.

Internal DVD Burners

If you simply want to replace your internal DVD burner with a new one, no question that this option is for you. But if you’re concerned about harming something in your computer in the process of replacing it, this is where you have some thinking to do. In most cases, an internal DVD burner is the best way to go unless there is a specific need to have an external burner.

In fact many consumers who do use external DVD burners, also own internal DVD burners. Because external burners are easier to replace (just plug and use) it may be a good idea to try a lower end model before deciding if it fits your needs. For internal DVD burners, purchasing quality products is important to limit the number of times it needs to be replaced.
